Annual Gala Raises Money for Waynesboro YMCA

On Friday night, the Waynesboro YMCA held its 25th annual benefit gala and auction.

With nearly 400 guests and an auctioneer selling everything from signed footballs to new cars, the Y uses the event to fund scholarships for needy families in Waynesboro.

Those scholarships help families that normally cannot afford the programs to take advantage of what the Y has to offer.

"The YMCA goes out of it's way to serve the under served, folks that don't have options for health clubs," says Frank Carey, who has been coming to the event for three years. "And that scholarship program provides a terrific amount of value to the community."

Last year's event brought in more than $130,000 in scholarships.
