HARRISONBURG -- It may be back to school for many. Those not attending class still get to experience the fire drills.
Apartment complexes like Urban Exchange are having fire alarm checks.
Property managers say you should always be aware of the best route to get out of the building in case of emergencies.
Urban Exchange property manager Mary Messerley said she works with people who are disabled to get them out safely.
"We typically see through the fire department when the alarm sounds, we see that tenants do not get out of a building. And the sound of that alarm means that there is an emergency, whether you hear it one time or you hear it five times," said Messerley.
Messerley said that the one time you don't leave the building, you may not get out.
