Lack of security at one Harrisonburg apartment complex has some people wanting out. Many people have sent us emails and Facebook messages about problems at the Commons Apartments.

The Commons Apartment's Facebook page shows the complex is encouraging tenants to renew their leases. Some are regretting that move.

"I just want him out." said Alisha Delves.

Her son Lovell lives in the complex. His apartment is not far from where his friend Ben Graessle was killed last month. The Delves feel Lovell needs to move out.

"I just want to be able to sleep at night. I don't want to have to get that phone call that something's happened" said Alisha Delves.

"It's kinda uncomfortable, like, living in this area now. Just knowing one of your friends was just, what happened to him." said Lovell Delves.

Lovell renewed his lease back in October so it isn't up until August 2014. There's concern that growing problems at the complex aren't going away.

"I don't really see The Commons doing anything to increase the security to make it better." said Alisha Delves

The Delves say they would like say they would like to see off duty officers patrolling the grounds, more light and security cameras.

Jason Dygert lives nearby and is taking an extra step to ensure his safety.

"I actually had a pocket knife on me. Just because that extra little bit."

Alisha isn't letting her son make that move, but she's pleading with the apartment management.

"So please. Let me do my job as a parent and keep my child safe. That's all I'm asking." said Alisha Delves is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
