RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Attorneys for a former University of Virginia lacrosse player are seeking a new trial on charges he killed his ex-girlfriend in 2010.
The Court of Appeals of Virginia is scheduled to hear Wednesday from attorneys for George W. Huguely V and the state. Huguely was convicted in February 2012 in the beating death of 22-year-old Yeardley Love of suburban Baltimore.
attorneys for the Chevy Chase, Md., man are citing four issues in their appeal. They include the decision by a judge to move forward with Huguely's trial when one of his attorneys fell ill. They are also questioning bench decisions regarding jury selection and instructions to jurors.
Huguely is serving a 23-year prison term for Love's slaying in Charlottesville.
