HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A store owner is helping bring business to downtown Staunton, raising awareness about local art with a painting competition.

Rebecca Schneider has owned Turtle Lane since March. Her store used to sell mostly antiques and collectibles.

Now, arts and crafts make up a large portion of the inventory.

She said her business gives artists extra income and helps the local economy.

"I think it is a great contribution to Staunton and the community and since it goes back to local pockets, then it comes back to our community as well," said Schneider.

Ten percent of the money raised from bidding on the paintings in the competition will benefit UVA Children's Hospital. The rest will go to the winning artist.
