HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Creative industries bring in $504 billion every year, according to the first official measure on how arts and culture impact the economy.

Ragan McManus is preparing for an art show involving Valley students.

She has noticed an increase in interest in arts in our area and said it's partly due to the success of art education.

In one year, the attendance in the Court Square Theater has doubled. This prompted the organizations to increase programs by 65 percent.

McManus said arts and culture impact our local economy.

"When you have things like the Explore More Museum, shows at Clementines. Smart business owners know that if they show visual artwork and have musical performances that people will come out," said McManus.

The arts council will display the art work from local children Friday at 4 p.m.
