MCGAHEYSVILLE,Va. (WHSV) -- It's about this time of year when people either leave or return from their final vacations of the summer, or possibly the year. One couple is looking forward to the fall for their vacation.
That's when Barb Weirich will be going on her first vacation of the year.
"Because of our schedule and to see a different area we needed to wait until our schedule opened up in the fall," said Weirich.
Weirich and others have decided to schedule their vacations in the fall.
She said she likes the summer, but has decided to have their fall vacation at Massunetten.
"This is close, it's a great vacation spot so we don't have to travel very far. Occasionally we go to work from here, which is a bonus because it's kind of being away, but also slipping out to go to work as well," said Weirich.
Massunetten Director of Activities Jeff Reid said the amount of people spending their summer vacation there was similar to last summer.
"Personally I am very pleased. When the economy is tough, folks really don't have to take a vacation, but we are very fortunate. We have a great product and folks want to come back and see us," said Reid.
Weirich's friend Cheryl Thomas is on vacation from Pennsylvania and picked the valley because of its views.
"We wanted to have a late summer vacation, after school closed. We knew it would be a little less crowded. I like to sit at the pool, my husband loves to golf, so it's perfect," said Thomas.
Massunetten said it will shift its eyes to the fall months because the resort hosts more people looking for something else.
Massunetten expects to have more people vacationing in the fall.
