HARRISONBURG, Va. -- With two new businesses in Harrisonburg, we spoke with Eddie Bumbaugh with the Downtown Renaissance to see what draws businesses to the area.

Bumbaugh said that a strong business base and that fact that there are 3,500 people working downtown adds to the draw of new businesses coming to the area.

Bluetique, which opened on April 12 has seen plenty of foot traffic.

Store manager Jacquie Patterson said as far as sales goes, they've been seeing about $1,000 worth of purchases per day during the weekend.

Patterson said the weekends are busier, at $8,000 per day.

Walkabout outfitters, which opened a few days after Bluetique, is also doing well.

The manager there said that lunch breaks are a popular time for business.

Both echoed a similar sentiment about the area.

"Really the atmosphere I think everyone's been very accepting, business owners have been coming and introducing themselves and it's really been a welcoming environment and I think that's what's going to make us stay, said Patterson.

Bumbaugh has several things in the works right now.
