AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Eric Bond, who has been with the schools system for more than 15 years, will be taking over as superintendent in July.
He started as an athletic director at Buffalo Gap High School in 1998 and is currently the assistant superintendent for personnel. He says all of this experience will help him in his new job.
Dr. Chuck Bishop announced last week that he would be stepping down as superintendent of Augusta County Schools to become the superintendent for Clarke County Schools.
Bond says when he takes office, he'll be focused on adding new technology in the classrooms. While the budget continues to be an issue, Bond says by working together with the supervisors, he hopes to get the area over the challenge.
"Funding is always an issue that we look at. With higher accountabilities and less funding, it does make it rather challenging for us. But our Board of Supervisors over the past couple years has been very supportive of our school system. I look forward to keeping up that collaboration with the Board of Supervisors as we move forward," said Bond.
At Thursday night's school board meeting, members also passed plans in support of building a new Riverheads Elementary School.
Nothing is official yet as the plans still need to be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
