The University of Virginia Board of Visitors has unanimously voted to reinstate Teresa Sullivan as president.
The board announced last Thursday it would vote Tuesday on whether to retain Sullivan, whose resignation is effective Aug. 15. Ten of the university's 11 school deans, as well as the Faculty Senate, called for Sullivan's reinstatement, while other groups have condemned the board for its handling of the situation.
Meanwhile, Rector Helen Dragas elaborated on the reasoning behind Sullivan's ouster last week, saying Sullivan was not addressing financial pressures and other challenges quickly enough.
Dragas admitted the board could have handled the firing better, saying: "we did the right thing, the wrong way."
