CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) -- About 300 people are jammed into a tractor barn at a county fairground awaiting Vice President Joe Biden in the reliably Republican Richmond suburb of Chesterfield for a rally to juice the Democratic vote in the presidential election.
Biden returns to battleground Virginia where polls show President Barack Obama slightly ahead. Obama on Thursday visits another traditional GOP stronghold, Virginia Beach.
Democrats have won the past 12 years in Virginia by exciting high turnouts in Democratic-voting areas such as the cities of northern Virginia, Richmond, Norfolk and Portsmouth, while moderating Republican margins in moderate-to-conservative suburban redoubts such as Chesterfield, Chesapeake and Henrico County.
Expect Biden to defend Obama's record on the economy and defense, and the link between them and deep, looming military cuts without a bipartisan debt reduction agreement.
