ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- A bicycle and horse buggy lane may be added to Route 42.
The Rockingham County Board of Supervisors will hear comments from neighbors on the proposal Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The meeting agenda states the county will have to apply for a transportation grant.
The money would fund an 8-foot-wide bicycle and buggy lane.
It would be added along Route 42 from Eberly Road to Garbers Church Road.
Supervisor Bill Kyger said the lanes would help lower the number of crashes.
"When you have the number of cars that drive here 55 miles per hour and you have a vehicle traveling four to five miles an hour, it's an issue of safety."
The project would also extend the existing bicycle and buggy lanes connecting Bridgewater and Dayton.
