STAUNTON --- A bill being considered in the Virginia General Assembly has pet owners talking. The bill would allow people to be buried next to their pets.

Currently, Virginia law specifies cemetaries as a place for human remains. The new bill would permit people to be buried along side their pets.

Pet burial has become popular in the past decade. One pet owner told us she feels it is like being buried next to a family member.

"It would be just like having a family member, one of your children buried with you. Owning a pet is a commitment. And having a pet and taking care of a pet is love," said Elizabeth Weiss of Verona.

The bill specifies that those buried with their pets would be separated from traditional plots.
