Blood Drive Honors World Blood Day

HARRISONBURG,Va. (WHSV)-- Many people in Harrisonburg stepped up to the plate to give blood on June 15 at the First Church of the Nazarene.

The Red Cross held a blood drive in front of the church in hopes of reaching a donation goal of 24 pints of blood. They are facing a shortage of blood donations this summer since kids are out of school and people are traveling.

Debbie Frederick gave blood today and knows firsthand just how important it is, after being in a car accident years ago.

"I just ran off the road to avoid hitting another car and went down in the embankment," said Frederick, 'It makes me feel like I'm helping somebody, that I have been helped through that donation.'

People with the Red Cross told me that just one pint of blood can save three adults or six children, and this just shows a little can mean the difference between life or death for someone.
