Blue Ridge Parkway Attractions Reopening

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Several Blue Ridge Parkway attractions that were closed last year because of federal budget cuts are reopening this spring.

The Roanoke Times ( ) reports that some of the facilities will be open on a limited basis. For example, Roanoke Mountain Campground will reopen May 9 but camping will no longer be allowed. And the Rocky Knob Visitors Center in Floyd County will be open only on weekends starting May 24.

Parkway officials say other attractions also will reopen in April and May along the 469-mile scenic drive, which stretches from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Parkway superintendent Mark Woods says restoration of water service, cleanup and other maintenance will begin soon. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
