Shenandoah County school leaders met with the board of supervisors to propose safety changes for public schools.
Superintendent Doctor Keith Rowland said the supervisors gave the school system $293,000 for improvements.
He said $50,000 will pay for school resource officers in every school until the end of the school year.
The rest of the funds will be allocated to architectural changes for entrances so doors remain locked at all times.
Other changes will include installing magnetic locks and a video intercom system at front entrances.
Schools will have safe lock hardware on all interior doors so that doors can be secured quickly in the event of a lockdown.
School leaders also plan to increase the ability for staff to communicate with school resource officers.
