Book Documenting Augusta County History To Be Unveiled in April

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- A book 50 years in the making is being released soon.

Fifty years is how long the Augusta County Historical Society has been in existence and as a part of its birthday, the society is unveiling an Augusta County picture history book.

The pictures in the book date back to before the Civil War.

Nancy Sorrells, the book's author, said a lot of the pictures are from private collections and many have never been seen before by the public.

Sorrells and the historical society have been working on the book for the past year and hope it gets people interested in the history of the area.

"It's not a full blown interpretive history of Augusta County, but it gives people a feel and a flavor for why we're so significant," said Sorrells.

The book will be officially unveiled at the historical society's birthday party April 15.
