Stonewall Memorial Park in Elkton now has something no other park in Rockingham County has - a "Born Learning Trail."
The ribbon cutting ceremony that opened the trail was held Sunday. The "ribbon" was actually a paper chain made by students at Elkton Elementary School.
There are 10 stations along the trail, each one features a different activity, like hop scotch or taking in the nearby scenery. The stops are designed for all ages, and the goal is to get fa miles and friends to bond while also learning.
It was put together by United Way and Elkton, and each stop is sponsored by a local business, including one from WHSV TV-3.
"My goal is for families to come out and enjoy the park. At the same time, have an opporuntiy to have learning time with their children as well. It is intended to be inter-generational, it's intended to be engaging," says Betsy Hay, Executive Director of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham United Way.
Volunteers from the JMU School of Hospitality helped build the trail, and the Town of Elkton helped put it together as well.
United Way hopes there could be more learning trails in the Valley soon.
