AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va -- The Boys and Girls Club of Augusta County, Waynesboro and Staunton received more than $1-million in grant money. The money will go toward two after school programs and it will cover staff, programming and tutors.

The idea is the club gets that grant money over the next three years and it will help the club with its goal of helping kids in the classroom.

The grant is funded through the Virginia Department of Education and it is called a “reimbursable grant,” which means the club's directors can only get grant money through a reimbursement process.

That is why they need the community's help.

“The whole point is we need the community's support to make sure we are able to fulfill the promises that we have outlined in the grant and deliver the program that we see is going to best serve the youth here at the Boys and Girls Club,” said Tyrell McElroy, one of several directors of the Boys and Girls Club.

The club was thankful to get the grant and keep programs going. Directors have already planned a few fundraisers to help them reimburse the grant.
