Bright Idea Awards Winners Announced

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- A contest for bright ideas in Staunton ended Wednesday night as two winners each walked away with a $5,000 grant.

Initially, 22 ideas competed to receive one of the two Staunton's Bright Idea Innovation Grants. Now the list has been narrowed down to nine finalists.

Wednesday night, judges announced Newtown Bakery and the American Shakespeare Center as the winners.

Newtown Bakery, a local business, won for its idea of a wood-fired oven. The American Shakespeare Center won for its "Who is your Shakespeare Personality?" app idea.

Lynne Breeden owns LTD 7 in Staunton and her bright idea was for a community consignment shop that gives back to charity.

"Oh my gosh, it's going to, one, keep old furniture and everything out of the landfills. That's one. It's going to provide an avenue for people to buy secondhand, quality merchandise. It's going to provide non-profits with financial help," said Breeden.
