HARRISONBURG (WHSV) -- A man who has been doing business in Harrisonburg for about 50 years is trying to attract new business to a building rumored to be cursed.
The building at 95 South Main Street has been home to a number of restaurants over the years. The last business to call this place home was "The Downtown" featuring Mediterranean food. It's one of several businesses that has come and gone.
Some say it's because this place is cursed. The owner has a more logical explanation.
"I'm not able to run this myself, because I'm 87 years old," explained Gus Floros who owns this building.
Many know Floros as the owner of Jess' Lunch on Main Street. He says the only thing haunting this building is a string of people who don't know how to run a business. One of those business owners includes the last tenant to serve here earlier this year.
"He doesn't know anything about business. I told him I don't want him. It was no good for him and no good for me,” continued Floros.
He says this place is in a prime business location, and that's something local commercial real estate agents agree with.
"That building has great frontage on Main Street. It's a great place for cars driving by to see it. I've always considered that building a very good building,” shared Keith May of Cottonwood Commercial Real Estate.
Gus is trying to keep his place in top condition so new business can fill these empty seats.
"We're cleaning out the best it can be, and I hope I find the right person,” Floros continued.
He says when that new business is ready, all they have to do is move in and start working.
"They don't have to put anything on it. Air conditioners, fans, seats, everything. All they have to do is put the key in the door and they're ready to go.”
Gus says he's gotten a few calls about new business, but nothing is set in motion at this point. Until he has a final offer, he's being patient and waiting for the right entrepreneurs to move in here so things can keep running for years to come.
