STAUNTON, Va -- This year's Veterans Day coincided with one of America's military leaders ending a career with disgrace and dishonor.
General David Petraeus resigned as head of the CIA after confessing to having an affair.
Alyson Beall, a cadet at Mary Baldwin College, said the announcement should not affect they way people view Veterans Day. She said despite the news, he should be celebrated like everyone else on Veterans Day for his service to our country.
“People who are going to sit there and are going to die for you and serve their country, you should always take time and respect them,” said Beall. “No matter what happens in the social world or in the country whatsoever, no matter what happens, you should always take time to respect those people.”
Federal officials say the affair should not pose a threat to national security, but this is still under investigation.
