Car Damages Pole, Wires in Rockingham County Crash

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- UPDATE: 5/25/2014 10:10 p.m.
A 20-year-old woman drove into a pole holding power and phone lines on Mount Clinton Pike Sunday evening.

Harrisonburg fire crews shut down a section of the road near Cook's Creek Road, because the lines are almost to the ground.

Brooke Showalter is charged with reckless driving. Showalter's family says she was driving her car and over corrected.

State police say was driving toward the middle of the road, and got spooked when she saw another driver.

VDOT crews are on scene as of Sunday night. This section of Mount Clinton Pike should be open by midnight.

Verizon owns the pole that was damaged. They will have to replace it.


UPDATE: 5/25/2014 5:10 p.m.
One family is affected by a power outage due to the crash.


A car has crashed into a utility pole and damaged wires hanging above in Rockingham County.

Emergency dispatchers confirm the accident is located in the 3800 block of Mt. Clinton Pike. They're unable to confirm if anyone is hurt at this point.

Fire and rescue crews are on the scene. We have a crew on the way for an update.
