Children at Local School Receive Dozens of Meals

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Every Friday, an organization in the Valley passes out dozens of meals to children at Spotswood Elementary School.

Spotswood has the highest number of children on free or reduced lunches in the city of Harrisonburg. In fact, more than 75 percent of the students need help getting adequate food.

Tori Fantasia, a Love Pack Ministry volunteer, said they have increased the amount of love packs given out from 20 to 35, over the past three years.

She said, they want to continue to grow to take care of all the children on reduced and free lunches; however, due to a lack of donations and especially a lack of volunteers they cannot.

"It opens up my eyes to the struggles in the community and how people do need to be supported a little bit more, even if it just means a backpack of food for the weekend. So, it has just made me realize that not everyone is as well off as everybody else," said Fantasia.
