A water main broke near Reservoir Street on Saturday, leading to water running for part of the evening.

The incident happened at the intersection of Long Avenue and Crescent Drive after 6:30 p.m.

City of Harrisonburg Public Works crews didn't show up until past 8 p.m.

Around 10:30 p.m., crews were at the scene fixing the problem.

Lee Magalis, who lives in front of where the incident happened, didn't find out about the incident until after News 3 told him.

At that time, his front yard was flooded. He said he was worried his basement would flood too.

He said it has happened before but not from a broken water main.

Magalis said he never expected this to happen so close to his home.

"It's kinda strange. I guess it's a little out of the ordinary, especially at a cold time like this, you expect to see water frozen, not flowing freely in people's streets like that," Magalis said.
