HARRISONBURG -- The League of American Bicyclists recognized Rockingham County's bicycle trails.

The league ranks the best communities for cycling and Rockingham County got an honorable mention. Cities and counties must apply to be considered for the recognition.

Kyle Lawrence, a Valley Bicycling Coalition board member, said he hopes the cycling community will keep growing.

"It fits into the Harrisonburg and surrounding area, Rockingham County, being the bike capital of Virginia, being a really great destination for people who come into town, but also a really good resource for people who live in the community," said Lawrence.

The league recognized the city of Harrisonburg as a bicycle-friendly community in 2011.
