STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- February has 28 days and more than 20 ways to give back to your community.

The annual Staunton Love, Downtown event is a way for independent small businesses to give back to the community by donating to the charity of their choice.

This year, 15 downtown stores are participating and supporting a wide variety of causes.

John Reese, the owner of Barking Dog Wine, said it's only fitting that he's donating to the SPCA this year.

"This is a good cause that we're helping with right now, and I think that the biggest thing we want everybody to understand is that it's not just a one month project. This is something we'll continue with, we want to help them the best we can, any way we can," said Reese.

Reese is donating 10 percent of sales from Barking Dog logo products this month.

He also said he will also continue to collect needed items for the SPCA.
