STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- If you're parking in Staunton during the storm, you might save yourself a little bit of time, and thanks to the City of Staunton, even a little money.
A serene and snowy Staunton, but if you're parked outside, it' would be far from a winter wonderland when you have to leave the house.
"With one like this where there's ice on the glass it's a lot of work, so once you get it cleaned off, you'd like to keep it that way," said Donald Judy, who is one of the drivers who parked his car in the parking garage on New Street.
The City of Staunton opened the garage as well as the one on Johnson Street for free during the storm.
"The streets are really slick, so I just wanted to go ahead and move it in here," said Fred Grant, who lives in Staunton.
Meanwhile, no parking is allowed on Beverly Street to help crews plow the road more easily.
"But it's obviously convenient for me too, because I've cleaned it off and it's not going to get covered again," said Judy.
It's a lesson some who are parked here had to learn the hard way just a couple of weeks ago.
"I didn't take advantage of it. I parked on the street, and ended up having to dig the car out after it was plowed in. So I figured this has to be easier, parking in the garage, instead of leaving it on the street and digging it out.... I learned my lesson last time," said Grant.
Parking will be allowed again on Beverly Street starting Tuesday at 9 a.m.
