STAUNTON -- Thirty neighbors met on Monday night to learn how rezoning could impact their neighborhoods.

Amy Arnold, the city's planner, said listening to neighbors' opinions will shape the future of zoning in the city.

“People had really good questions. We were able to get into the level of detail that will really help people make a choice about if they want their property rezoned or if they don't,” said Arnold.

Planning department employees are working to improve neighborhoods through rezoning. Some houses in the city are zoned as businesses and that makes it difficult for neighbors to remodel or renovate their homes. Planning department employees helped neighbors find their home and what it's zoned for.

A city council public hearing will be held in April before a final decision on zoning is made.
