WAYNESBORO, Va -- The City of Waynesboro has posted a survey asking the community for recommendations for the future of Coyner Springs Park. Questions include how often they visit the park, what amenities they use, and what they would like to see in the future.
Nick Duncan and his girlfriend often go to the park to walk their dog. While they enjoy visiting, they notice some areas for improvement.
"I've come here a lot of times, and there's not enough parking," Duncan said. "If they put more trash cans or maybe a water fountain, that would be nice. People with dogs come here, and that's just about it. You don't really see teenagers or anything coming down here. They could develop it up a bit more, like put some picnic tables or something out here."
Spencer Eavers works with Waynesboro Parks and Recreation and said calls and recommendations from the community led them to start the assessment.
"We've talked about adding more trails, adding maybe benches along the trails so that people can have a place to stop and sit," said Eavers. "Probably the biggest feedback we have already had is that people don't want this park developed, and I think by that, they don't want playgrounds and picnic shelters."
Waynesboro Parks and Recreation plans to use money from its budget to implement the new plans once they have been decided. When the survey is finished, Eavers and others with Waynesboro Parks and Recreation will meet to discuss which recommendations are most feasible.
