City of Harrisonburg Road Condition Update

MINOR: Bare pavement except for icy spots. Major portion of pavement bare with isolated spots of snow, ice or slush requiring caution.

MODERATE: Snow or ice on pavement. Major portions of pavement covered with snow or heavy slush. Chains or snow tires are advisable for safe travel.
SEVERE: Drifting or roads partially blocked at this time; accumulation on roadway. Strongly recommend the use of chains or snow tires for safe passage.  
CLOSED: Streets temporarily blocked due to drifting or traffic tie up. Impassable for traffic.

HARRISONBURG -- The city released a update on road conditions as of Sunday afternoon.

The city lists the primary routes (Routes 11, 33 and 42) and hospital routes (Port Republic Rd. and Reservoir St.) as having "minor" conditions, defined as having bare pavement except for icy spots. The city also put major connector roads in the "minor" category.

Emergency routes for fire and rescue are listed in "moderate" condition, defined as having snow or ice on pavement. Those streets are Pleasant Valley Road from Main St. to Fire Station #2, Lucy Dr. from Evelyn Byrd Boulevard to Deyerle Ave., Rock St. from Broad St. to N. Mason St., and Maryland Ave. from South High St. to South Main St.

The city lists residential streets in the "moderate" category.
