ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va -- Seventeen thousand lives could have been saved last year if those people were wearing their seat belts. That is why Virginia State Police wants to remind you to buckle up right now.
First Sergeant Frank Pyanoe said more troopers will be checking to see if you are wearing your seat belt next week.
"Without a doubt those serious accidents, involving death or a serious injury, most of those injuries were sustained because those folks weren't properly restrained,” said Pyanoe.
Pyanoe said they are starting up their Click-it or Ticket program again this weekend. He said right now 80 percent of people in Virginia do wear their seat belts, but he hoped programs like this would bring that number up even more.
The Click-it or Ticket initiative starts Sunday and will last until Nov 18th.
