Friday night is the coldest night of the fall so far, so you'll want to take care of your plants.
While many of us have a warm place of our own to call home, others don't.
People out and about this Friday night can feel the temperature drop.
Many of them bundled up in jackets to stay warm until they get home.
But not everyone is fortunate enough to have that basic need.
Collette best
"They give us a roof over our head, they feed us 3 meals a day and keep us warm and safe when we need it." said Collete Best, She's been living at the salvation army shelter in Harrisonburg with her family.
"To make sure he stays warm and he has a place, even though he's a teenager. He still needs that safe place and secure place that he knows he can call home for a while." said Best.
Captain duane burleigh
"We're there to help them out no matter what." said Captain Duane Burleigh with the salvation army
He says more people have needed help.
"For the complete year, we've had an increase. So as we get closer to the colder weather i expect to see more people." said Burleigh
People aren't the only concern.
Many nurseries have covered their plants,
"A light covering of some sort of burlap or cheesecloth." said Rodney Orndorf with Home Depot.
He says the material is the best to use to protect your plants.
Back at the shelter, Collette is caring for her family, staying out of the cold.
"Life isn't as tough as it seems, just because you're in a bad spot now." said Best,
Collette says she hopes to move her family out of the shelter in the next two months.,
The shelter holds 72 beds.
If more people are in need, beds are set up at the church across the street.
