STAUNTON --February is national Black History Month, but for students at Mary Baldwin College, February is just the start of the celebration.
Students will celebrate Black History through March.
To kick off the celebration, students held a tea and learned about interpretive dance. Other events in the coming weeks include a poetry slam and gospel music. It's all in an effort to celebrate diversity on campus.
One volunteer said she wants students to remember their heritage.
“Without knowing your past, you can't have a future. That's always good to keep that in perspective. Black History month events allow people to do that,” said Jennifer Oliver-Patterson, a volunteer.
