Community Reacts to Strike Down of Same Sex Marriage Ban

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- The Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond ruled on Jul. 28 that preventing gay marriage and denying recognition of such unions performed in other states violates the U.S. Constitution.

The local LGBT community came out in full force to celebrate the court's decision at Beyond restaurant and lounge in Harrisonburg.

"I've had the opportunity to connect with a lot of LGBT individuals and find that community here which has been really important. I think today is really a celebratory moment not only for the LGBT community, but for all Virginians," said Steven Krcanowski, a member of the Harrisonburg LGBT community.

Several groups that WHSV reached out to for an opposition viewpoint were not willing to give an on-camera comment.

This case is one court watchers have said is likely to go to the Supreme Court.
