HARRISONBURG, Va. The Harrisonburg City Council plans to meet on Tuesday to discuss a request from Woodland Montessori School, for a special use permit to allow a child day care facility within a residential district.
The response from the community is mixed.
Some families are excited about this new, larger location; however, others worry this building will create traffic congestion in their neighborhood as Woodland Montessori School continues to grow and add on a new child day care.
Vencent Disalvo and his wife live 50 feet from where the proposed parking lot would be built and plan to be at Tuesday's meeting, speaking against the request.
They worry the proposed entrance to the school will cause congestion and noise on their now quiet street.
"We moved here in October from Baltimore, right outside Baltimore city. Noise? We've had plenty of it. We moved here because it was a nice, peaceful location and a nice state," said Diana Disalvo.
Managers at Woodland said, they understand the traffic concerns and want to minimize them.
They have staggered drop off and pick up times.
The school has no large public school buses and many families plan to carpool and take bikes.
