Computer Scam, Trend Continues in The Valley

Harrisonburg -- It's a scam we are continuing to follow after getting more complaints.
"Warning-your computer is infected! System detected virus activities."
You may be one of the many people who have received similar pop-up alerts.
These typically show up after you open an email attachment or download files.
The software or "free scan" offered in pop-up alerts often doesn't work or actually infects your computer.
David Ramirez owner of Tech Support in Harrisonburg tells WHSV he's seeing customers come to him with this scam.
Ramirez says folks should take the time to install updates on your computer because it will save you time and money. If you don't know where a pop-up link came from don't open it he stresses.
