STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- Richmond lawmakers announced budget amendments that would fund grants for school systems interested in going to a year-round calendar.

Staunton School Board Chair Ron Ramsey said the board would be open to considering it, but would probably need other schools to join.

"We have so many regional programs in tandem with Augusta County and Waynesboro. You might say, to paraphrase John Donne, 'No school system is an island' here in communities this size," said Ramsey.

Ramsey said for it to work, all three of those school systems would likely have to adopt the plan.
