Workers in Page County are Thankful to be Employed Despite High Unemployment Rate

Updated: Tue 6:36 AM, Sep 04, 2012

PAGE COUNTY, Va –- According to numbers from the Department of Labor, about 9-percent of people in Page County are unemployed. The county faces one of the highest unemployment rates in the state.

That is why on days like Labor Day, many people, who live in that area, say they are thankful to have a job.

Amy Jones lives in Page County and she said she was unemployed for seven months this year. She said it was a struggle to find work and take care of her children.

A lot of her friends and neighbors are still without work.

"I would say I'm blessed to have a job, with as poor as the economy is and there aren't a lot of jobs in our area," said Jones.

Another Page County neighbor, Wanda Floyd, said sometimes unemployed people in Page County have to find work outside of the area.

"Most small areas, bedroom areas such as Page County. You have to go outside the area to find work. Harrisonburg and some of the other larger areas, so we need to be very thankful for those who have jobs," said Floyd.

Floyd and Jones said areas like Page County need more industry to bring more jobs and put more people back to work.
