Crash Shuts Down Port Republic Road

Rockingham County - UPDATE: 8:20 p.m. 2/1/2014

Port Republic Road is open again tonight after an accident shut the highway down Saturday afternoon and sent three people to the hospital.

Emergency dispatchers say it was at the intersection of Port Republic and Artillery Roads. Traffic through here was stopped after 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

Virginia State Police say a pickup with two people hit a car here with one person inside. All three people involved were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were all wearing seat belts.

The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Gregory Hanger from Waynesboro is charged with reckless driving.

Port Republic Road is open again. We have a call into to Virginia State Police for more details on the crash.


The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center confirms that Port Republic Road is shutdown at Artillery Road due to a traffic crash.

Below is a map of where that is.

There is no word on how serious the crash is. We're working to confirm more details as they become available.
