ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- Cupcakes for a Good Cause is hosting a cupcake competition for radon awareness. Valley bakers are coming together on Saturday for a little friendly competition.
Dusty Donaldson, founder of Dusty Joy Foundation, said the event is a fun way to raise awareness for an important issue.
The Valley is known for having high levels of radon, and it can be as much as five times the national average. Donaldson said cupcakes are a sweet way to open a serious conversation.
“They just don't know about radon, so radon is an odorless, invisible gas that is created by the naturally occurring decomposition of uranium that's in the soil and the bedrock,” said Donaldson.
The event is being held Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cornerstone Christian School in Rockingham County.
