HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- This year's Dancing with the Stars of the 'Burg raised more than $116,000 for the Harrisonburg Rockingham Child Daycare Center.
Sunday night, seven teams competed for the coveted mirror ball trophy.
Team Forbes and Team Jones danced their way to perfect scores, while Team Woodard took home first place; however Monday, the dancing shoes are off.
"I don't know that I've heard of any other event in Harrisonburg that has ever raised this much money for a single charity," said Lois Forbes of Team Forbes.
Forbes, who placed second. said it's all for the kids.
She won the Children's Champion Award for fundraising the most before the dances.
Forbes said people donated to her that she didn't even know.
"You can be just kind of touched by the idea that somebody just took the time to do that," said Forbes.
Hunter Woodard, who works in a jewelry store when he's not dancing, agrees.
"You still are able to get amazing care for your child no matter how much money you make," said Woodard.
Weeks of practice for a purpose; the salsa, merengue and other dances set a fundraising precedent.
"I guess it will be a challenge for the people that dance next year," said Forbes.
They're not quitting their day jobs, but dancing is still in the competitors futures.
"I'm going to miss the dancing," said Woodard.
"I would love to try some more dances, try to you know, wouldn't mind taking some more lessons, it was really great fun," said Forbes
Before the event, the teams practiced for 14 weeks.
The teams thanked their family and friends for the fundraising support.
Team Woodard said it really leaned on its supporters for that, especially the night of the event.
