Thousands of dollars are now raised for a good cause after "Dancing With the Stars of the 'Burg" Sunday night.
TV-3's George Hirschman was one of several local "celebrities" who danced to raise money for the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Day Care Center. The Daycare offers sliding scale payments for parents of all income levels, which is why they can use the money.
Teams were competing for donations and votes both prior and during the event. George placed third in pre-votes, but did not place in the top three dancers. Still he's happy with $38,000 that was raised.
"In the end we were able to raise a considerable amount of money, and the real winners are the kids at the day care center. It was a lot of work and time, and I would do it again," George says.
The dancing winner was Jill McLaughlin from Classic Kitchens. Andy Huggins and Melissa Swisher placed second and third. Our Bob Corso hosted the event.
The organizers, including Daycare Director Delores Jameson, were very happy with how the event went.
"It is more than what i expected, the fundraiser has been absolutely fantastic. The pre-votes have been great, the competition between the dance teams has been phenomenal this year," Jameson says.
