HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- With less than a month before Election Day, while the candidates try to gain votes, local registrars are working to make sure voters can give them.
The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 15, and all applications must be postmarked by that date. WHSV checked in with registrars in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and Augusta County on Friday, and they are hard at work processing voter registration applications.
Potential voters can register online at the State Board of Elections website, by visiting their local voter registration office, or by mailing in an application.
Registrars are going through those applications and updating poll books for Election Day, a task that Brandi Lilly, the registrar for Augusta County, said gets busier and busier the closer they get to the deadline and to Election Day.
"It's feast or famine in this office," Lilly said. "A lot of times, we're just flying around trying to get everything done and make sure that anyone who's eligible is able to vote and that we're doing everything possible to provide that service."
Voters who have already registered but need an absentee ballot can request one until Oct. 29. So far, Lilly said, her office has had about 200 absentee ballot requests.
