HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- In Harrisonburg alone, hundreds of millions of dollars in defense contracts have been awarded to local businesses in the last twelve years.
Eagle Carpet has had contracts with the Navy Information Operations Command Sugar Grove, in West Virginia.
Chuck Ansell, the general manager at Eagle Carpet, said there hasn't been a huge jump in projects lately.
Ansell said that they worked on housing projects at the base and offices laying carpet, tile and flooring.
Eagle Carpet used to have more contracted jobs at Virginia Beach, but Ansell says that's more competitive now. "Virginia Beach is getting a lot further out of our reach to bid work, but we're happy with what we do have and what we do get from all the military and the government contracts."
According to governmentcontractswon.com, which documents contracts, contracts have helped bring in tens of thousands of dollars to Eagle Carpet.
"It's always beneficial to grab a good contract and to work with a contract, it keeps our employees busy, it keeps the economy going in the right direction, and you know, the installers need this work as much as we need this work," said Ansell.
Eagle Carpet is one of dozens of businesses with defense and government contracts.
A spokesman for TSSI, which has hundreds of millions of dollars worth of contracts, said business for some contracts is down because of troops leaving Afghanistan.
