RICHMOND -- A Virginia delegate introduced a bill that would change the way you pay for things.

Del. Bob Marshall thinks the state of Virginia should have its own currency system.

Marshall proposed the idea in a bill to the house of delegates. Marshall's bill asked for a $20,000 study to see if it would be possible to return to the gold standard.

A house committee passed the bill on Monday.

Marshall said the Federal Reserve is not in a position to back up the dollar bill if it were to collapse. He's calling for coins to be made worth the weight in gold or silver.
