ATLANTA (AP) -- Democrat Michelle Nunn, who's seeking Georgia's open Senate seat, has joined the growing chorus of congressional candidates from both parties who are calling for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to leave amid a growing crisis over veterans' health care.

Nunn on Friday stopped short of calling for Shinseki's firing. Instead, the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn said "there is growing evidence that the Department of Veterans Affairs needs new leadership," adding she hopes Shinseki resigns.

A day earlier, Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky also called for new leadership as the VA investigates 26 facilities nationwide over allegations of treatment delays and deaths.

Both Grimes and Nunn have sought to distance themselves from President Barack Obama as they seek to woo moderate voters in their states.
