RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Party members voted Saturday at several polling locations throughout the 16th Senate District.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Dance beat Del. Delores McQuinn, former Richmond Mayor Rudy McCollum and businesswoman Gerry Rawlinson for the nomination. Dance, a former Petersburg mayor, received about 45 percent of the vote.

The 80-year-old Marsh worked as a civil rights lawyer and was Richmond's first black mayor before serving more than two decades in the state Senate. He was recently appointed by Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe to a $122,000-a-year position on the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
