Disposing of Your 2012 Political Signs

Updated: Wed 7:56 PM, Nov 07, 2012

HARRISONBURG, Va -- Harrisonburg Public Works leaders said it is the parties' responsibility to pick up political signs from city property. Public Works leaders will give them two days to remove the signs and after that, they will pick up the signs and hand out fines.

They will hold the signs for a few months at public works for the owners to come pick up, but it is better for you and the environment if you take care of it at home.

"Take the actual signs and pull them apart. Stakes away from the cardboard pieces, and put them out separately on your regular refuse collection and recycling collection days. That way we can pick it up and we can recycle each part separately," said Solid Waste Superintendent Harsit Patel.

Patel said that if you do not do that, and just put them out with the rest of your trash, the signs will be taken to the landfill.
