Disruptive Student Brings Police to JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Last week, a disruptive student brought police out to the campus of James Madison University.

One student, who wishes to remain nameless, said she showed up to her classroom in Harrison Hall and a disruptive student started pacing up and down the aisles. She also said he stood up to make an announcement.

According to her, many of the other students in class felt they were in danger, especially when the student started talking about masculinity and saying that he 'wasn't afraid to die'.

She said there was a lot of concern over what he would do next, whether he had a gun or was a dangerous threat.

"You hear about these things in the news all the time and you never think it is going to happen to you. Being in that situation was so terrifying. I have never been so scared in my life. I personally think there should have been an email sent out just because it truly was frightening. His behavior was just very bizarre and I think students should have been warned," said one student who witnessed the disruption.

Police took the student into custody.

Bill Wyatt, Associate Director of Communications at James Madison University, stressed that the situation never put anyone in danger.

The event has left a lot of confusion and rumors swirling around the campus.

Many students believed Harrison Hall had been on lockdown, but Wyatt dispelled that as a rumor.
